When my mother, Mary, injured her back in a way that threatened her ability to stay at home safely, I was surprised to learn about what 50 North could offer to her and to me as her local family caregiver. In one visit to 50 North, I made arrangements for mobile meal delivery on a temporary basis, borrowed a walker to help her navigate her home by herself, and made arrangements for her to get a personal emergency alert system. Most importantly, 50 North and its professional staff gave me peace of mind knowing that caring support was available to us during this time in my mother’s life. I’ve had cancer and a heart attack. Then I had a stroke 4 years ago. I wasn’t able to drive anymore because the damage to my eyesight left me permanently vision impaired. I use a walker to get around my apartment and can’t cook much. A friend told me about 50 North and meals that could be delivered to me. I’ve been getting them every day for 4 years. I like the food a lot and I look forward to seeing all of those volunteers that deliver my food. They’re always nice! Using Mobile Meals lets me still live on my own and stay in my apartment.
I decided I wanted to make a change. I was always home and I don’t have any family nearby. I joined 50 North’s Wellness Center 7 years ago. I started making new friends and getting more healthy. Every person became so valuable to me. I started going to fitness classes and lifting small weights. It starting building my self-esteem, the more you do it, the better you feel. It gets in your system and the rewards are incredible. You can actually see your body change. I lost 79 lbs and I don’t take any medication. I love the track and the hydro massage bed. I don’t miss a day!”
I work out in the Fitness Center 3 -4 times a week and I walk in the 50 North Hikers group and love it. Due to a health issue, Dr. Fox suggested I come here for extra physical activity. Everyone is so nice here, it’s clean and I can use my headset. I really like the equipment and I’m a SilverSneakers member, so it’s free. I like the treadmills, rowing machine, and recumbent bikes. I also have lunch in the café, it’s a great way to get out and see friends! My parents used to come here a lot and play cards and they also volunteered to deliver Mobile Meals.
I don’t have family or friends that can help me with the things I need done in my home. Other people told me that they’ve had great experiences with the Chore staff here, so I thought I would try it. I needed an old heavy TV removed from my home and doors on my shed repaired. They came right out and did everything. I completely trust them in my home and I recommend them to others. I never hesitate to call and ask them for more help!
I’ve been coming to 50 North and using the Fitness Center for 8 years and enjoy the friendliness of the staff and the diversity of the exercise equipment….The Fitness Center is a place where folks with all levels of experience can come and work out.
After the loss of my leg, I spent 3 months in a Nursing Home. My wife was able to contact 50 North to build a ramp leading from the inside of our home into our garage so I could safely get into our car even in bad weather. The Chore workers also installed grab bars throughout our bathroom and fixed our commode, all before I was able to come home. My wife has an injured arm and we were unable to care for our lawn and 50 North helped with that too!
50 North is a friendly place where activities from A to Z are available for us! We are amazed at the gym, social opportunities, café, and fellowship. The building is spacious, beautiful, and is without a doubt, the finest in Ohio. And most importantly, the staff goes out of its way to make each visit special.
We especially benefit from the Delay the Disease class which has made a difference for those of us who live with Parkinson’s disease. - Larry
I’ve always valued 50 North for the role it plays in my parents’ lives - café, wellness classes, fellowship - but now that I’m newly retired, I am excited about how 50 North is helping my life too with exercise, travel opportunities, and new friends! And best of all, 50 North is full of happy caring staff members who always make me smile. Please join our family in voting “YES” for Senior Services on Nov. 2nd! - Julie
